MUSIC IN 35 millimeters

"At first I write a suite that contains all the DNA of the piece. Well, when I have this DNA, I invite everyone to contribute ideas (…) and from there we try several versions and see what we learn" (Hans *Zimmer, 2018).

For more than a hundred years, films and music, voice and piano, have been travel companions predestined to pair up. Through ragtime and impressionism, played with a piano in the early projection rooms for silent and black and white films, music - initially jazz - ended up imposing itself on the screens to move and entertain the audience. The release of the first sound film, The Jazz Singer, took place in 1927 and was the beginning of a new era. 

 

However, today pop, rock and sophisticated digital techniques have replaced this traditional style of music in cinemas and digital platforms.

Running away from stereotypes, Loida's and Eugènia's proposal aims to revive that spirit by revisiting classics and iconic melodies and introducing sounds from some of the most current soundtracks.

FEMALE RESONANCES IN THE WORLD OF CINEMA

We propose a show specially made for Women’s Day.

 

We are two musicians specialized in the film repertoire, and we believe that it is still necessary to visibilize women’s role in the world of cinema: composers of soundtracks and songs, lyricists, screenwriters, directors, characters and iconic voices...


Our program gives voice to each of them and takes a dynamic musical journey, full of emotion, knowledge and thought.

100 years of disney

"Music has always been a prominent feature of our products, since the early days. So I can't think of a story without thinking about the music that will go with it. Sometimes the theme song comes first, suggesting a form of treatment" (Disney, 1959)

Since it was founded, Disney has always been a musical engine, both for the world of cinema in particular and entertainment in general, which has never failed to innovate and adapt itself to the current times.

 

Composers such as the Sherman Brothers, Leigh Harline, Oliver Wallace, Alan Menken, Randy Newman, Thomas Newman, Michael Giacchino... have worked for the factory permeating their films with jazzy, minimalist, pop, and musical sounds, always through a careful production and building a repertoire that has been part of our lives.

Why Disney? Because we want to highlight the value encapsulated in a production like this one, a production that surpasses the screen and that was concieved to be part of our musical history.

"John Williams chose the timelessness of jazz, along with talented saxophonist Donen Higgins, to underline the cat-and-mouse chase between FBI agent Carl Hanratty (Tom Hanks) and Frank William Abagnale Jr. (Leonardo DiCaprio). This is a superb composition that serves to illustrate how John's music has matured and how he continues to get younger and bolder every day” (Spielberg, 2002).

Jazz has been closely linked to film production, both as a soundtrack and as a musical. Let's not forget that the first sound film was The Jazz Singer (1927).

 

Great singers, and especially crooners, have starred in films that have offered us lovely themes that are continuously recreated even today. At the same time, we asked ourselves: we can cover songs from other styles, providing them with a jazzy sound? Of course we can: it has always been done and we are here to continue doing it.
